I live in Grand Isle!
I live in Grand Isle, Louisiana. People are evacuating now even though I don't think it'll hit here. Should I evacuate? If I don't and it hits here, I'm scared the hurricane will wipe out our whole island!

Been to Grand Isle many times on fishing trips and things like that. Used to have family there. But I believe that Louisiana has built rock jetties all over that Island. The island will still be there. Yes, the island will be under water, so bring valuables and make sure you put other things high enough, perhaps inside. Is your house raised as many houses there are? If so, put these valuables in your house, board the windows, and lock it up tight. You'll be ok. Good Luck!

Fast forward, in you mind, to Tuesday at midnight, when the hurricane is close. Feel the adreneline. Your heart is pumping. You no longer have much of a choice. The roads are packed. You don't want to be stuck on the road in your car when it hits. If it would just turn.
That's what I did with Charlie, except it wasn't a "fast forward". Charlie ended up turning, but I still play that night over and over in my mind.

Thanks for all the replies guys! Yea, my house is raised above the ground so I'm not really worried about flooding in my house, except for my cars! I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens. Do you guys think we'll have a definite answer as to where it's going to hit tomorrow afternoon?
Oh yea, and I've already gotten a ticket in Golden Meadow! LOL

You're worried about flooding in your house? My friend, if this thing hits at its current intensity your house might be sitting in 25 feet of water. Is your house 25 feet above the water? And what the storm surge doesn't take out, 160 mph winds will take care of post-haste.
Worry about your life.

Please, do the prudent thing and evacuate now. Today.....
The longer you wait, the more crowded the roads are, the less gasoline is available and the worse the weather will get.
I agree with the poster who said, don't worry if your house is high enough, If IVan hits as a cat IV or higher, .........
Just go and be safe.
I realize it's an inconvenience but you need to be safe.
Ivan is not your usual hurricane.
