Actually, Biloxi didn't bounce back. It wasn't until the advent of dockside gaming in 1993-95 that the place ever recovered from that devil-spawned, god-awful storm.

AMEN!!

I hope that Ivan will travel over shorter, shallow(er) waters, given some scenarious, it would hopefully gorge itself out, quickly using up it's supply of energy before slamming the coast, but no guarantee that would help deminish the devastation that storm surge could cause in areas of low coastline elevation in some situations... one thing is certain, however, there is no gurantee of anything at this point ( call me Captain Obvious). Memories of Fredrick re-arranging the coastline in'79 have added to the "pucker factor" here in Gulf Shores.

Having grown up in the P'cola area, I can tell you if she is where I think she is she doesn't have to worry about storm surge.

To all the rest of you in my old stomping grounds-I graduated Woodham High-I say the same as the others. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. If you are anywhere near the water get to high ground.

My mother is in Niceville, and I have tried to get her to come here in Houston to visit us till Ivan is gone, to no avail. You know where I will be next weekend if Ivan hits that area hard. And as you all know that is still a big IF even with the latest model trends.

Past that everyone in danger is in my prayers.

Destin here....vb if it looks like we'll be taking a hit, we will be going to Niceville to stay with the in-laws who also won't leave....so if you need us to check in with your mom, let me know, or if she needs help with any prep we'll be happy to lend a hand.

Some would say that dockside gaming is also devil-spawned.
If you own a motel or gas station etc good but tell me what gaming adds to the average persons life?

Ivan will hit as a cat 2 or 3 probably and I still think it's in the Eastern Fla Panhandle

Milton/Pea Ridge here. I've been a "lurker" for quite a while, reading from the sidelines, but now feel compelled to pipe up. Like you all, I feel really nervy about this guy, so close to Escambia bay and all. My major concern is that the nimnulls at NASP will require me/us to drive in before releasing us from work. Whatever happens, though, the only thing we can change is our preparedness level. for the rest, trust in the Almighty and each other (and maybe a bit of ol'mother Luck). Seems to be a greatly supportive group of folk here. I'm glad I'm not alone.
