Worried Now

I'm in Navarre, Florida..and I've been a good member of this board. But,,,
right now I'm getting very nervous concening this storm. I think we're going to lose everything we're ever worked for along this Panhandle region of Florida.

I love my community, home and family but if this storm clips the western side of Cuba everything we know here will be gone by Thursday.

If your looking for predictions, I think that by Monday night we'll be running for our lives anywhere from Mobile to Destin. I hope I'm wrong but I'm really stressing right now.

Hey man, all you can do is be prepared. Wherever this frickin thing hits it's going to change a local economy forever. Good luck and God bless everyone who may be in its path.

The US landfall point and intensity are far from certain at this point;
chances are you'll be fine.

Hey Chris I'm very close to you in the Garcon Point region.

Fortunately Ivan will probably weaken to a CAT3. Opal was bad but if it comes in this area we'll just have to ride it out as we've done so before. Since 1995 our area has been pretty lucky. The worst we got it since then was Earl and Georges.

I hate to see anyone get too worked up and stressed out about it right now while there is SO much uncertainty in the forecast track. Also, there is a teeny bit of good news as the NHC and ships models predict some pretty significant weakening from its current strength (Min. Cat 3 perhaps) due to shear in the GOM...so hopefully you won't be looking at a Cat 5. Cat 3 is certainly no picnic and VERY dangerous...but not as bad as it could be. Just prepare & plan intentionally, stay watchful and then calmly implement your plans if necessary...and pray, look what that did for Jamaica

Chris and Sircane, Pace here....we are all worried, hopefully Ivan will weaken as Frances did...before hitting the gulfcoast...whenever and wherever the landfall occurs.

Just buckle down like anyone would and you'll do fine....Most likely if it hits there, it will be weaker than it is now (keep that in mind). You'll likely have to clean limbs up and possibly replace a few tiles on your roof. You'll ride this one out fine---it will most likely be a cat. 3 when it hits the northern gulf...take it easy...

If this thing doesn't weaken over the Gulf I'm not sure we'll be safe up in Selma, Al at my Dad's house. Dude, me and some of my friends here are really stressing on this one. I'm retired Navy and 914MB coming thru the pass down near Cuba has me sweating bullets.

First of all , if Ivan does show up here in the western panhandle just be prepared. We can hope he will be weak. I for one , will be ready and plan to stay in the area. I have a new home built this year. The home is to stand up to 145mph wind. I live about 15 miles from the Gulf and about 5 miles from the bay.

Hi Chris -

I'm in Cantonment and know exactly what you are going through. We just moved into our new house this summer and likely won't be able to locate plywood to board up our windows. We are insured but hate what could potentially happen. Hang in there and know that you aren't alone.

Yes, if...

The landfall cone is still VERY uncertain at this point. As we've seen Ivan basically does what he wants. So we have to just wait, see....
...and be prepared.

And you'll be fine.

Thanks everyone....I'm starting to feel better now......but I'm still very concerned about this storm. If he's central GOM and not weaken'd at all I think we'll have a problem. A big problem.

Hey, Chris, I feel for you. My parents went through Andrew, and I helped clean up.

Just remember we all, I mean ALL, care about you. And no matter how bad it gets just take care of yourself. Get through this and remember that other people have, too.

Watching paradise get ripped up is really hard on the soul, but be strong. If you have to, fake it and borrow strength from the rest of us. We're here when you need us, honest.

I know how you feel chris I was just looking at the latest GFS and still in near Appalachicola. This is the eastern outlier. scary.

If you get hit, and if you lose power for a while (as we did twice with Charley and Frances), just get online as fast as you can and let us know what you need. The help those of us got from people in other parts of Florida and the U.S. will not be forgotten!

Remember that whatever gets 'broken' can all be fixed. Biloxi got smashed by Camille and yet bounced back. South Miami got hit hard by Andrew and rebuilt. It can ALL be rebuilt. Just remember that you aren't in it alone.

Actually, Biloxi didn't bounce back. It wasn't until the advent of dockside gaming in 1993-95 that the place ever recovered from that devil-spawned, god-awful storm.
