With all respect, I think a lot of people would argue that Charley, Claudette, Lili, etc., were real. I watched trees blow down during Lili and was still repairing damage as late as last summer, almost a year later. To me, that counts as a real hurricane and it doesn't. Three real storms in the last 3 years.

This is going to be a major event with a powerful fairly slow moving system..the nation's eyes will be on the Gulf of Mexico....

Yes., I agree..I'm talking about a system that will be fairly close to the center of the Gulf...

I will give you this much, this thing will be the first reallly large Gulf hurricane in some time, since at least Opal. Andrew, Bret, Charley, none of them were really large hurricanes. And if I have done my research correctly, this will be the first hurricane to cross the Caribbean all the way as a hurricane and enter the Gulf since Gilbert.

Lili was only two years ago and she was a Cat. 4 up until she dropped to Cat. 2 at the time of landfall. I would not leave her out. She was pretty major around here that's for sure.
