HAHAHA!!! Actually tropical systems have split before, particularly in the west Pacific as they interact w/ land. Usually the main system retains most of the energy, but the second piece can also form a low. I think this NOGAPS is a little crazy though.

The only way for one to split is if it passes between some serious mountain ranges with opposite stearing on either side, and the system is moving slowly. This is not happening to Ivan.

That split is showing the model is not handling Ivan properly. It is confused on what Ivan is going to be doing. Part of it is thinking that Ivan will take that course north, while at the same time it is thinking that Ivan should be staying where it is. If that makes any sense to you. It is thinking scitsophrenically. (sp?)

maybe NOGAPS thinks Ivan is really Arnold Schwarzenegger's from the movie "Junior".... He was a big strong powerful male who got pregnant.....

Ivan is certainly no "girly man" for sure

Yes, I saw it do that with Frances and Charley, too.

I prefer to think the storm took a dump, since Charley and Ivan are duuuuudes.
