ULL NE of Lesser antilles could become a major player
needs to be watched very closely as this could very well through a wrench in the forecast...Ivan at this point is just barely crawling. However, I'm beginning to really pay close attention to the ULL heading west as this *could* become a key player down the road by eroding the ridge enough which in turn could make a huge difference in the final outcome of wher France make landfall....

Poor vortex...
i am having the same problem as you, three big storms in relatively the same area in a little over three weeks... you wrote where france made landfall.... lol Ivan..

Yes, this upper low to the north of the Greater Antilles has been watched and commented on by many here. At one point it was generally thought that the western edge would be eroded enough by this low to allow Ivan to turn north. That obviously hasn't happened yet. The low appears to be filling, and it is actually moving to the WNW now. It is still slowly eroding the ridge...but at a snail's pace. Every model I've seen now rebuilds the ridge first to the SE of Ivan then to the E and even NE. This appears very reasonable given the upper low's movement, and w/ Ivan imputting so much heat into the ridge, thereby acting to strengthen it. The massive trough digging into the West Coast also implies ridging in the east and is another key player here.
