Check out the 2315Z shot! (currently the end of the loop)

Here's it is (for now) as a still shot.

Do you really think this is going to be moving North now. This storm is crazy!

Will not move due north, can easily still see the ridging in place to it's north on WVI. But, it does look to me that near 80w Ivan should start to head back to a more wnw heading passing just SW of the Grand Caymans toward the very western tip of Cuba or just miss it to the west.

Looks like you may have just gotten your wish, mobilebay... we'll need a few more frames yet, to be sure.

Just what it sounds like--movement toward the pole. In other words, North.

You can also easily see ridging in place to its west. So it would seem that is not sufficient to rule out motion in a given direction.

Are you sure? S2K admins asked not to do this in order to help the board. Why would you say images do not take more bandwidth.

I think the shape of the CDO is mostly a function of the current outflow. It is very well organized from the NE to the SW, but slightly poorer to the W and NW. If the outflow on the west were a little better, the convection would probably be more symmetric.

myred, S2K admins later realized that wasn't a cause of any problems.

Images do not take more bandwidth because all that is "served" from S2K to your web browser is the LINK to the image-- your browser then talks to the LINK server to download the data that makes up the image. This happens behind the scenes, so to speak.

Click "view source" from your browser's menu, and you'll see that the HTML sent from S2K to generate the page contains an image reference to a foreign server.

Was it yesterday that the CDO had that exact same appearance? 2 hours later it was perfectly symmetrical and heading due west.

Wow, the 2345Z IR has BLACK showing up again in the convection.

WNW continues in that frame.

The question is: another cyclonic loop in an overall W movement, or a turn to the WNW?

We've got only 4 hours (8 frames) left before the eclipse.

Yeah...well 2 days ago (I think) when it was a Cat 5 the first time. I was just thinking this as well. The outflow is also now expanding in the NW quad.

Yet another example of why this board ROCKS! Where else on the internet can you go to learn about weather AND bandwidth - all at the same time!! Thanks Cali for all your great posts!!

Purdue, looks like it is getting more symmetric... but also been headed WNW to NW the past few frames... through 0015Z.

If we don't see a W jog at 0045Z, I'm going to start thinking a turn is more likely than cyclonic looping or trochoidal motion.
