TEMP CONTRASTS in Maryland/Virginia

#1 Postby WXBUFFJIM » Thu Apr 03, 2003 4:59 pm

The backdoor stationary front is now just south of BWI and MTN (Martin Airport) I live only 3 miles west of Glenn L Martin State Arpt. Temps range from the upper 60s at MTN, to the low 70s at BWI with a northeast wind at both locations. It's 81 at Washington National Airport. It's 84 in Richmond and 86 in Petersburg, VA with a south and southwest wind. It's 88 at Emporia, Virginia, which is the highest temp I can see on the latest obs. However near the coast, Ocean City is only 45 degrees with low clouds and fog with a northeast wind off the cold frigid atlantic ocean.

Definitely some huge contrasts today across Maryland and Virginia. Even the western Maryland mountains are in the upper 70s to mid 80s. A warm day indeed. But there are frigid spots too.

That magic of a backdoor CF with cold air damming (and not to mention, help from an onshore wind) ...

Some amazing temperature contrasts, nonetheless ...
