Local met already declaring all clear..?

#1 Postby Josephine96 » Sat Sep 11, 2004 8:24 am

I was just watching 1 of our local weekend news morning shows here.. and 1 local met just about sounded the all clear with this..

He's like "All models say Panhandle so it's looking much better for Central Florida"

It hasn't even passed our latitude and he already thinks it looks better.. I hate when the local mets do this..It drives me nuts.. They sometimes can lead people into a false sense of security

Yeah that's too far to go for Central Florida yet. I'm only just this morming feeling pretty confident that South Florida is OK.

The Panhandle/Big Bend solution looks very strong, but I wouldn't think it responsible to go on the air and say "things are looking good" for CF.

I don't see what's wrong with his statement. I doubt he told people that there was no chance of getting a hit, he just told them that the chances are now less. This would be correct. With the eye passing south of Jamaica, this significantly reduces the risk of your area getting hit. It doesn't sound irresponsible at all, it sounds like he is trying to inform the public of the latest info/forecasts.

He didn't say "no chance".. But with how perky he was and everything..it sounded like it lol..

I still think it wasn't right for him.. He could have said "we're still watching it as it could threaten us".. or something along those lines

too soon for the all clear, but look at dereks forecasts. http://www.nwhhc.com. he has been very consistent with a panhandle hit

I was watching fox35 last night, (for the life of me I cant remember the mets name...Bill something I think.) Anyway, He made a very interesting observation, he pointed to a low pressure area on underneath the high on the east coast of Florida (ok dont shoot me if I get all the termenoligy wrong!) and said that that low pressure was not being handled well by the models, and it could have implications down the road by drawing Ivan further to the east and across central Florida.

His name is Bill Karins lol..

He's ok as a met.. But I like Jim Van Fleet most at Fox..

and by the way.. the channel that made the observation this AM was 9.. {Jamie Martin}

I really enjoyed Tom Terry's analysis during both Charlie and Frances. He explains things very well.
