Cat. 5 by now

#1 Postby lilbump3000 » Fri Sep 10, 2004 7:20 pm

I cant see how this is not a Cat. 5 by now. I mean it looks 100% better now then it did yesterday morning when it was a Cat. 5. If this system continues to look this impressive im sure we will have a Cat. 5 by 11 tonight.

No, its 150 mph. Jamaica will weaken it down to 135-140. This isnt going back to Cat 5.

are u sure about this? nhc seems to think otherwise. it has a good possibility of still hitting CAT5 before making landfall.

Based on satellite, it doesn't even look like it'll cross much of Jamaica, just clip the SW tip. That's not going to weaken it much, if at all.

Yeah, thats true. I definitely can believe that this thing could be a Cat 5. Thank god that the worst is missing Kingston and the mountains.

Missing the mountains is good news/bad news... the good news is less chance for torrential rain leading to mudslides above Kingston. Bad news is that it would have been nice for some 1000-2000 meter mountains to take the punch out of the center of circulation.

One possible ray of hope(someone correct me if I'm wrong) if Ivan moves south of or along the south coast of Jamaca then ne to east winds would be off the inland mountains thus reducing the wind over the southern coast some. As the storm moves to their west, they would get their strongest winds (southerly of the water) but at least the worst winds would be reduced to the period of southerly winds. The worst situation will be in the mountains as they penetrate into the stronger winds aloft.

My god the storm looks as if the storm is still intensifying as if Jamaica isn't even there. Hope to see a new recon soon.
