Jamaica Radio (repost0

#1 Postby Houstonia » Fri Sep 10, 2004 5:38 pm

Someone posted the link to Jamaica Radio here last night - I'm just reposting it here.

It's worth a listen.

If not for the news, the music is pretty good too.

I'm listening via Winamp.

The state of emergency will last for ONE MONTH.

I'm using winamp too, but the website also has links for RealPlayer.

http://www.go-jamaica.com/power/

They said earlier today they have had to increase their server bandwidth three times today, so please don't leave the stream running if you're not listening.

I agree the reggae music is great.

He's with the "opposition?" Rebels or something, I guess?

He's complaining about the "special rights" given to police during a state of emergency and how citizens rights are taken away.

HELLO?? After they just reported about looters with machetes and a gang of 15 gunmen spotted in Drusland (sp?).

He's a nut.

I don't mean to discount anyone's comments here, but tropical storms to the islands are a way of life. Granted, some years are much more forgiving than others. They freak out when they see the blizzard coverage that the northern U.S. states go through and don't understand why everyone doesn't freeze to death!

Ivan is going to be a storm that surviving children tell their grandchildren about, but I hope you don't mistake their laid-back attitude for lack of intelligence.

I know I've had a couple panic moments of "where to run" in the big state of Florida in the past couple weeks, tiny Jamaica understands that they are where they are.

he said he wasn't issuing the state of emerancy because the hurricane was weakening and the track has changed so the need will not be as great for the state of emergancy! BOY is he in for a surprise!!! This is what you get when politicians try to be forecasters...mightest well tropics specialists!

With all due repsect, this is not a tropical storm. It is a dangerous/close to cat 5 hurricane, and its up to the government to properly educate and prepare their people. It seems judging from this radio broadcats, they haven't done their job too well
