"Based on the success of this test, Dyn-O-Mat® and its team of experts will prepare to combat a tropical storm or a hurricane in its embryo stage (weather permitting) in the very near future."
I think the operative words here are "embryo stage" and I think we can consider Ivan a little past that. . . EVEN if it were possible to begin with.

i didnt read the whole post, but the airforce tried to do this back i nthe 60s or 70s, i saw it on some discovery channel special, they dumped some chemical into a hurricane in the GOM and some say it slightly weakened for a bit. At anyrate it hit some place in mexico or some island and they blamed us for it

Funny thread so far....
But in all seriousness, how could this be something other than a publicity stunt? If one truly wanted to perform a public service, why wait until it has devastated Grenada, Jamaica, Caymans, Cuba? Why not attack it when it was a Cat4 several hundred miles east of the islands? It's not like a 747 doesn't have the range to get there, even fully loaded with dynocrap.
The answer is simple, as several have mentioned already. The storm has now gotten everyone's attention and is likely to weaken at around the time this stunt is supposed to take place. A chance for cheap publicity with no verifiable way to prove their claim one way or the other.
This reminds me of the Raelians. You know, the nutjobs who claimed to have cloned a human and when asked to prove it said the mother didn't want any publicity so they couldn't show the baby.
Forget the Darwin award or thinning the herd. This company is a big candidate for the chutzpah award.

Peter Cordani of Jupiter plans to try to knock the storm down by one or two categories by dropping tons of powder that absorbs 3-thousand to 4-thousand times its weight.
Cordani is chief operating officer of Dyn-O-Mat, a company that sells environmental absorbent products such as mats for mechanics. He believes his product, SK1000, would cause a shearing action and a 15 degree cooling of the storm.
Cordani has been working on his plan for five years. He has assembled a team of experts, including two former astronauts, moonwalker Edgar Mitchell and Scott Mac Leod, who tested the lunar module.
Cordani is in contact talks to lease a 747 tanker from Evergreen Aviation in McMinnville, Oregon.
And the gov't will give him permission to do this... oh nevermind....

First of all, a (1) hurricane generates more energy then all countries combined! Thnk about the amount of absorbent someone would need to dump, just to cool the temperature of a hurricane by 1 degree?
Number 2, the Navy has already been studying the effects of laying down a fine mist (sheen) of an oil based product, in front of the projected path of hurricanes, in the attempt to stymie the evaporation process, of hurricanes as they traverse accross very warm sea surface waters. In preliminary testing it has shown some very positive results. Further and more comprehensive testing, is in the offing. Looks very good so far.

It's ridiculous I know, but so is thinking a nuke dropped in the eye would make a powerful hurricane go away!
Talk about seriously screwing up the Atmosphere. We must wish for a death wise do we?

A nuke, in the middle of the storm?
That would be like dropping a penny in the middle of a gallon of water.
A (1) HURRICANE GENERATES MORE ENERGY THAN ALL THE COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD!
Does that above statement mean anything, as it relates to how a (1) nuclear explosion would effect it? Then you would have the ungodly amount of radiation spreading across a wide area of the ocean and atmosphere. It would be like dropping radioactive particles in a giant fan! Sheesh....

I hope this guy gets treated like any terrioist that flys get shot out of the sky!
Is this guy goning to be on the airplane? Because it takes at least 3 to fly a 747 classic, not to mention who else may be on board to help out. Is it really worth killing innocent people??
The crew of the plane can't help what they are hired to do...

notgroovy wrote:The hurricane is Earth's natural way of transporting excess heat from the tropical regions to the polar regions to keep the climate in balance...start screwing with it, and Mother Nature will find another, perhaps equally violent, way to do the same thing. No good could come of this.
Exactly. People need to realize the weather is like an equation in which x is attempting to equal x. The reason we have weather is b/c of the atmosphere trying to balance itself out. If you disrput a hurricane then the weather/mother nature what have you will just find another way to make ends meet. If you don't like hurricanes then I'd suggest either don't live in hurricane prone areas or just learn to live with the storms, educate yourself about them, and always be prepared during hurricane season if a storm threatens your area.
