Is this guy serious?!?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Is this guy serious?!?

#1 Postby Raebie » Fri Sep 10, 2004 2:10 pm

JACKSONVILLE — A South Florida businessman says he's going to try to reduce the strength of Hurricane Ivan by flying a Boeing 747 into the edge of the hurricane and dumping thousands of pounds of an absorbent material into the storm.

Peter Cordani of Jupiter plans to try to knock the storm down by one or two categories by dropping tons of powder that absorbs 3-thousand to 4-thousand times its weight.

Cordani is chief operating officer of Dyn-O-Mat, a company that sells environmental absorbent products such as mats for mechanics. He believes his product, SK1000, would cause a shearing action and a 15 degree cooling of the storm.

Cordani has been working on his plan for five years. He has assembled a team of experts, including two former astronauts, moonwalker Edgar Mitchell and Scott Mac Leod, who tested the lunar module.

Cordani is in contact talks to lease a 747 tanker from Evergreen Aviation in McMinnville, Oregon.

It's Dyn-O-Mat...and he's back! ROFLMBO!!!

Seriously though, I just don't know how "absorbent" material will defeat a hurricane. However, I have often wondered if there was some way to do something to stop one. Figured I was nuts for thinking it though. :) But absorbing it???? What the....?

Apparently he's trying to create a big ball of suck.

It's all crap. Several smert people said it would take 150 C-130's to carry enough of it to knock out a hurricane...don't see it happening.

It's never been proven to work before. *rolls eyes*

But if I remember correctly- the hurricane they tried it on years and years ago had one of the FREAKIEST tracks I'd ever seen.

I hope he doens't go- not because I want people to suffer but because I dont' think it'll have a benificial effect on the hurricane and may have a detrimental effect on the ecology of wherever he dumps it.

Wouldn't it just turn the system into a big, fast, deadly frisbee???

Hippies and hounds of the southeast, rejoice!!!

This is crazy. He's just talking about leasing a jet, bs. You have to have things a bit more planned out. What a fruitcake. How is he going to disperse it?

Anyone else want to kick this guy's >>bleep<< for thinking he'll do something the storm is already supposed to do? I'm really ready. The storm is forecast to weaken, and he'll take credit for it.

This is stupid. Not only does it screw up the environment, it can seriously affect other factors and throw off the natural cycle. Our planet needs hurricanes.

That's like trying to slow down the chain reaction of 10,000 50 megaton nuclear warheads. lol Isn't that the energy equivalent of a hurricane? Thought I read that somewhere.

This could screw up are Planet. Doe's us humans wish a death wise or what? This is going to distroy are Enviroment. In plus distroy the mixing of are Atmosphere. This is wrong! Hurricanes have been on this planet for hundreds of millions of years doing there job.

I hope this guy gets treated like any terrioist that flys get shot out of the sky!

This guy lives up by me. He did one field test where he dumped this crap in a cloud over singer island, and then swore it evaporated, and now hes convinced it will work in a hurricane. What a whacko.
