Gasoline sales halted Friday??!! Just heard.....

#1 Postby dixiebreeze » Thu Sep 09, 2004 9:09 pm

from a cable service employee that all local gas stations will halt gas sales here (Citrus County) to "civilians" Friday to ensure that service and repair crews have ample supply. Anyone else hear anything like this for any other areas in Florida?

We have one vehicle with full tank and one with 3/4 tank, so in pretty good shape. But it would also mean no gas for those with generators, etc.

If I'd heard that with a hurricane heading my way- I'd probably go out tonight with a gas can and set aside a gallon or two for the generator just in case.

That jsut sounds so off to me though- they're evacuating the keys and woudln't sell gas to people even if they're evacuating? Surely they heard it wrong...

Nope, Dixie - haven't heard anything like that down here, but I'm keeping my ears open just in case. I did fill up my tank today though to avoid the weekend rush...

Haven't head anything about Hillsborough, yet. But I'm watching the Pats, so I'm not sure if they would cut in with something like that. Right now, I'm just all over the web. We are filling up our tank tonite, just in case.

Here are a couple of rumor control numbers from the Sun-Sentinel. Might be good to check and see if the gas information is true or rumor. If any sort of gas rationing was occuring in the state, I would think these folks would know.

Broward County Hurricane Information line: 954-831-4000.
Rumor control: Broward County: 954-831-4000.
Miami-Dade rumor control: 305-579-1800, 7 a.m.-midnight

Well, Citrus county was what was mentioned. The Keys are in Monroe county, and I'm sure they'd make sure everyone who's evacuating by car would be able to actually get off the islands. I couldn't see them closing gas stations there.

Here's a comment by Jeb Bush about gas supplies in a press conference today (from an article in the Sun-Sentinel)

Parts of Florida have continued to suffer from power outages and severely low fuel supplies in the wake of Frances. But Bush said that even Ivan's likely assault on the state isn't expected to result in a gas-rationing plan for the state.

``No, we're not capable of determining supply-and-demand needs for every locality,'' Bush said, responding to a question about whether a gas ration plan is being considered. Instead, Bush said state officials have successfully encouraged gasoline wholesalers to ensure gasoline supplies near evacuation routes. ``But that's not really rationing,'' he said.

Thanks KBBoca, sounds like some might -- and some might not. I can believe it for Citrus County. Tons of repair crews got here yesterday, filling motels, restaurants and gas stations! So it's probably true for here anyway. Yikes!

I doubt this is true in Citrus. People there tend to be a little over reactive. So don't believe everything you hear.

An odd comment, Merepell.

This is how rumors start.
I do think the gas situation is serious and will get more serious after Ivan destroys even more of the states infastructure.

We're in for some rough times.
