Not to mention that with all the school closings over the course of the last month, the kiddies are going to be in school until July at this point

It's not just children that are stressed. Everyone is weary of dealing with a new Cat 5 storm every, or every other week. We are ready to get on with our lives, and doing routine things like making a living.

We would like to have one week where we aren't going to Home Depot or Lowes twelve times buying tarps and roof felt, or sitting in gas lines to fill our cars and gas cans for generators. I'm tired of having to lug home more cases of bottled water and ten sacks of canned goods. I'm just tired period. Everyone is concerned if THIS one (#3) is the one that will blow our houses down or flood us out, or worse yet .. kill us all. I've been at the crossroads for both so far. I have family including myself who endured significant damage by Charley, and Frances only worsened that damage. Roofers are backlogged for months already, and who knows if Ivan will cause even more damage.

I'm a 4th gen Floridian and this is home, but I am starting to think about moving to Colorado: no Hurricanes, and no earthquakes. And I love to ski. Besides too many people have moved here and it no longer resembles the Florida I grew up in. If we could just have three consecutive weeks where we aren't hunkering down AGAIN my outlook would improve greatly. I won't even be able to enjoy opening weekend of the NFL this weekend because I will once again be sick to my stomach about what might happen Monday or Tuesday! That was the one thing that had me a little bit happy after Frances FINALLY left!

I decided to evacuate this time cause I am just so exhausted. I spent Charley in a shelter. Then when Frances hit I was worried sick about my family in WPB. Than Frances came here and I came within an inch of getting flooded, no power, canned food.

So this time I am getting the heck out and spending a few days in a nice safe hotel with cable tv, in room movies and a restaurant to eat in. I'm just too fried to sit through another storm or go to a shelter.

I can't stand standing in line. Living where I do, I can drive to P'cola or Biloxi to fill up with ice and beer. Down in FL, especially if Ivan hugs the coast, there will be nowhere to go except to the back of the line.

I totally agree with you Lebowsky. I have had enough. I hit stressed about 2 weeks ago. I don't even know what you call it now. A hotel with running water, electric and ac sounds real good for this storm.

Jeb Bush stated today that the Hurricane days will not have to be made up this year and that the school year will be allowed to be less than 180 days for children whose schools were affected by the Storms.

My 10yo son is tired of hearing "we might get this one"
I'm fried too. I stay up all hours and that's no good for him to have a war-weary mom.
School...don't get me started, because that where they are!
It's like the first week of school all month!
But, you gotta give them this..
they're having experiences they'll always remember.
They'll see how the grown-up acted/reacted and behaved.
They'll know better when they'll need these skills.

2/3 rds of the schools here in St. Lucie County were damaged. I heard 30 percent have been condemed. There is a press conference at 3:00 p.m. tomorrow to find out what will happen. My classroom is unusable. My guess will be double sessions for all of us until further notice.

off topic- I was featured in the Palm Beach Post Accent section today...:)

What really wears me down is that I will flood for sure in a serious hurricane, even an average 1 storm. To constantly face losing a good part of everything you own a few days down the road is no way to live ... you need a little security every now and then, the knowledge that two weeks from now you will have a clean dry place to live.

It's been faced with losing everything, saved. Faced with losing everything, saved. And now it's faced with losing everything again ... I can't sit through it again wondering if I'll get saved, I'm leaving it up to the man upstairs and getting out.

This may sound morbid but it might help someone in need. The stress is real and there has been a 13% rise in suicide in the affected counties. They gave a number for help, I believe it was 211. I have to live long enough to see my beloved Bucs win another Superbowl.

We are new to Central FL (Polk Co.) moved here the first week of July. I have two children five and nine. We can not watch the news or any weather report with out my five year old almost going in to a panic. This has been awful for all and nerves are shot. I work out of my home office and my Company headquartes is in NY. Great Co. they just do not understand.. the impact that has had on us ALL mentally here.

I concur with all that you all have written. But, I gotta feel dated. My 10 year old has a book from home that he is bringing to school in the morning on hurricanes, as they are plotting Ivan at the school he attends.
In the book he is bringing, it discusses Elena. God, I suddenly feel old as I told him of his Father's and my evacuation...even before we were married and living next door on the beach. I'm searching our old pictures for photo's of Elena to bring to school for show and tell.
But, sadly, I am hearing on a another forum how we, here in the path of these storms, have chosen where we live, so "oh well". :grrr:

Everybody needs to remember that it's the parents responsibility to make this situation as unstressful on the kids as possible. They look to you for a sense of well being & security. Be there for them!

That's not quite fair but whatever floats Bu$h's boat I suppose.

PanAm,
Why do you think that isn't fair?
