Am I wrong in thinking that Ft Lauderdale is looking better

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Am I wrong in thinking that Ft Lauderdale is looking better

each day. I know we could still get Ivan, but it seems less and less likely that we will get a direct hit. Anyone care to comment?

Even if we do not get a direct hit here in South Florida that does not mean that we could not feel any effects. It is possible to still have some major tropical storm force winds but it is just too early to even speculate the kinds of winds Florida will experience.

Yes, you are wrong.

I think it's looking worse for SE FL, especially with the current motion, and the GFS and Euro coming into agreement.

No.

GFS and Euro's have direct hits on the Miami area and while the other models would be good for you, you would still feel some affects and a slight deviation in track could make a big difference.

I don't know why, but I don't see Broward County getting any devastation from this storm. Maybe some nice winds and rain, but I feel ok about this one. If I lived on the west coast of Fla I wouldn't be feeling good at all.

At moment things looks better for South Florida and not so good for the Fl. Panhandle. But as we all know things change with every advisory.

I disagree. At 11pm the track will be adjusted to the right.

If it stays on the NHC 5PM track, I don't see anything for the southeast coast of FL. Charley gave us all of one lightning-filled feederband.

Of course, we'll see how it all changes.

Charley was also MUCH smaller than Ivan.

I think what Canehater is drivin at is that if Ivan hits florida, most likely it will have to be on land for a good 60-100 miles before the eye would get to ft lauderdale area, so it would weaken considerably. Only way we'd get closer to the eye, with less land interaction is if it skirts us to the east, and then we'd be on the lesser, left side of the storm. This is what I'm thinking (hoping) too, that either way it won't be so bad for ft lauderdale area.

Chris..I'm with you....I think the 11 PM will show a shift to the right....not out to sea or anything THAT drastic...but a shift non the less. Anything that comes up or across the state stinks for Melbourne!
