I have some relatives( my wife's cousin and her husband) that are staying at the Sandles resort at Negril, on the SW point of Jamica. They stayed too long and could not get a flight out. Hopefully, they will be staying in the hurricane shelter of the hotel. The husband is saying he will stay in the room. They just got married on Saturday and are on their honeymoon.
I am curious as to what sort of winds, surge and damage can be expected there. Thanks for the help.

Absolutely they should stay at a shelter.
What conditions they experience is very dependent on the precise path of the storm. If it is just to the south of the island or directly across it, conditions will be very severe. If it is to the north, then they may experience as little as tropical storm force winds.
But the important point is that they absolutely must behave as if they will definitely experience the worst of the storm, because very small changes in course can make all trhe difference.

Dude, if this is a serious request. Then you tell them to find a safe place in the center of the island, not flood prone, away from the high mountians, and inland away from the surge. A good concrete structure. If a cat 5 skims the southwest side, which i expect to happen. That entire island will be flattened. literaly flattened!!!

Underground if at all possible. This is EXTREMELY serious. They should have gotten out...

The husband is saying he will stay in the room.
That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard... He would be safer going to a shelter and playing Russian Roulette with 3 bullets in the gun... At least he'd have a 50% chance that way....
You want to be a good family member? Tell him that, if the storm maintains its predicted track and intensity, and he doesn't leave the hotel room, he and his bride will most likely NOT BE COMING HOME AT ALL!!!!!

Put it to him another way.... he has a giant F2/F3 tornado coming at him.... Except the tornado is miles wide... Would he stay in the hotel room if he saw a tornado coming....

This is ghoulish, but for the families' peace of mind, they might want to write their names, contact ph #'s, etc... in marker on their bodies.
If they can't get underground, they might well become a statistic. God Forbid that should happen, but if it does, it makes identifying their bodies easier, and at least you'll have something to bury.

Extrapolating its current motion, if it where to remain at this intensity..... the situation is deadly especially for Sw jamaica..... it would be utterly blasted by the northern portion of the eyewall and may very well bear the brunt of 140-155 MPH winds...... with gusts over 175 possibly...... nothing will be left standing

I lived threw Andrew in South Louisiana. I never got to talk to them, her father did. None of them have had anythign stronger than an inland tropical storm so they dont have a clue as to what to expect. You guys have confirmed by thoughts as to what they should expect. I will keep you informed if I hear anything at all.
To the few doubters on here...this is a true post, I only wish it was false. They are 21 years old and stupid. I told my mother in law to tell her father to tell her bye, to try to get here to come home. But it was too late for the flights.

Tell them get into the (camp) inside stairwell, if there is one. Inside (fire escapes) stairwells, are cinder block encased structures, within the building. This will be a very safe place, but it will be quite noisy from the howling winds. The worse part will be the wind noise and the lost of power. They will be inside a concrete bunker, with no power/lights, and ungodly wind noise.
I JUST PRAY, THE FACILITY THEY ARE STAYING IN, HAS INSIDE STAIRWELLS, OR THEY WILL BE IN BIG TROUBLE.
