I hate TWC...

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Storm stories should be reserved for the 3-4 AM hours...

How many times have I turned on TWC the last few years on the weekend or at night during a severe weather/tornado outbreak only to find Storm Stories or whatever? How about covering the storms occuring at that moment?

I will never understand why a channel that focuses on weather will nor preempt programming such as "storm stories" during severe weather episodes.

There are plenty of "dull" weather times to do this, not during a cat 4/5 threatening the US, nor with three active tornado watches, or a blizzard.

For everyone hating TWC, it seems a lot of people on here know a lot about it. Whatever they are doing must be right to keep the viewers. BTW I don't like TWC ever since John Hope Died.

My favorite is when a cluster of tornadoes is bearing down on several counties, and they tell me what a lovely day it will be tomorrow. IN ENGLAND. Ack. Ptooey.

I do like their field reports and love some of their weathergirls.... But, for real forecasting, I'll take Derek Ortt, Floydbuster, and the NHC over them anyday...

By the way quickychick, does your nickname fairly represent your personality...

I use to think it was John Hope making all them babies, but now I think it has to be Jim Cantore.

Typical TWC banter:

<chirpy-happy voice with a big smile> "Good evening .. I'm Vivian Brown, and I couldn't be happier to be with you tonight, especially those of you in Florida, because you're all about to die .. AGAIN!! Now let's show you some routine weather in other parts of the country"</chirpy-happy voice with a big smile>

Sheez!

I think it's because like all channels, it costs money to air. Weather jockies like us come few and far between. Not much of an audience. So they have to cater to a wider audience. Then that draws advertising reveniew from Scotts Lawn & Garden. Troy Built, etc. So when Scotts or someone asks for a segement that reaches their target market, like Gardening, and oh here's $5 million, the weather channel has to suck face and put on gardening. :-) But I do feel they should have like an emergency mode when a big storm is approaching where there is constant info for jockies like us and then a dumb down segement say every 15 minutes for the average joe.

Boy has this thread drifted. I ain't nobody's girl. I'm a chick.

So, back to TWC, is Steve Lyons the only one who actually makes their forecasts and does he feed it to the meteor-heads, or do they make their own stuff up on-the-fly while dancing in front of the green screen?

John Hope was THE man...in critical times like these, you need to ask yourself W.W.J.H.D?

Not a fan of TWC. They don't give enough information and have become just a bunch of petty faces trying to entertain.

Kind of sad....they could do so much better.

Come on guys...... they aren't all that bad. But, I have to agree that storm stories repeats way to often and then there was the announcer (met?) that said as Floyd '99 approached Florida, "Well, maybe the hurricane will hit Florida, then again, maybe it won't." Honestly the guy said that and it still cracks me up. 8-)
