Being a non-forecast specialist, I really can't comment as far as highs, lows, etc. - but the rest of the site - WHAT A READ!!!! Such a *comic* relief - I read the whole site and smiled the whole way through! I have a 20 year old daughter who is in college and it is hysterically similar - as well as a boyfriend that has a 21 year old son.
After being in several hurricanes - this was absolutely the truth!!!
* Coffee and frozen pizzas can be made on a BBQ grill.
* No matter how many times you flick the switch, lights won't work without electricity.
* Kids can survive 4 days or longer without a video game controller in their hand.
* Cats are really irritating without power.
* He who has the biggest generator wins.
* Women can actually survive without doing their hair--you just wish they weren't around you.
* A new method of non-lethal torture - showers without hot water.
* There are a lot more stars in the sky than most people think.
* TV is an addiction and the withdrawal symptoms are painful. One day at a time, brother.
** IMPORTANT** A 7 lb bag of ice will chill 6-12 oz Bud-Lite's to a drinkable temperature in 11 minutes, and still keep
a 14-pound turkey frozen for 8 more hours.
* There are a lot of trees.
* Flood plan drawings on some mortgage documents will probably be wrong.
* Contrary to most Florida natives' beliefs, speed limit on roads without traffic lights does not increase.
* Aluminum siding, while aesthetically pleasing, is definitely not required.
* Just because you're over 21 doesn't mean you can stay out as late as you want.
* Crickets will increase their volume to overcome the sound of 14 generators.
* People will get into a line that has already formed without having any idea what the line is for.
* When required, a Chrysler 300M will float--doesn't steer well, but floats just the same.
* Tele-marketers function no matter what the weather is doing.
* Cell phones work when land lines are down, but only as long as the battery remains charged.
* Laundry hampers were not made to contain such a volume.
* The price of a bag of ice rises 200% after a hurricane.
* Your water front property can quickly become someone else's fishing hole.
* Tree service companies are under appreciated.
* Drywall is a compound word, take away the "dry" part and it's worthless.
* You will walk farther than what you thought.
(Hope you don't mind) - This was great! Another friends son is in Mobile for meteorology - you two would get along great!

It's also very, very, basic.

I don't know if you are right or not, but for someone who didn't understand troughs and ridges before your post, you made it quite easy to understand. I thank you for that!

Chris,
I still like your analysis, but that ULL over the atlantic is beginning to come into play.

They mention Frances, but I'm sure they mean Ivan.

THE PATTERN IS COMPRISED OF A HIGH AMPLITUDE
MID-UPPER LEVEL RIDGE OVER THE WESTERN ATLC EXTENDING FROM
FLORIDA NEWD OVER BERMUDA. MOST OF THE UPSTREAM MOISTURE IS
RIDING UP AND OVER THE RIDGE LEAVING A LARGE AREA OF SUBSIDENCE
AND DRY AIR N OF 25N W OF 60W. SHIFTING EWD...MID-OCEANIC TROUGH
EXTENDS FROM A FORMING UPPER LOW NEAR 31N50W SWWD TO THE
BAHAMAS. THE TROUGH IS UNDERCUTTING THE AFOREMENTIONED W ATLC
RIDGE AND THIS INTERACTION WILL LIKELY AFFECT THE EVENTUAL TRACK
OF HURRICANE FRANCES. CURRENTLY...WATER VAPOR IMAGERY INDICATES
THAT THE UPPER LOW IS BECOMING CUTOFF AND BEGINNING TO DRIFT
WESTWARD. <snip>
THE
SUBTROPICAL RIDGE CONTINUES TO BE WEAKENED OVER THE CENTRAL ATLC
BY THE AFOREMENTIONED MID-OCEANIC TROUGH AND FORMING UPPER LOW.
HOWEVER...A WELL-ESTABLISHED RIDGE AXIS REMAINS OVER THE W ATLC
FROM BERMUDA TO CENTRAL FLORIDA.
They mention Frances, but I'm sure they mean Ivan.
