can you imagine. . .
this thing pulling off a David-esq track through Mia, Ft. Laud, and WPB at CAT 4/5 strength, it would make Andrew look like a walk in the park

The storm surge would pile up all along the coast...
The eye would pass over a hundred billion plus worth of property...
There would be NO resources or return to normal life for a long time to come.
The area would be desecrated a la camille, andrew, etc.
Tree's if still standing would be stripped of leaves, and many brances... left bare.
The majority of homes would sustain some roof damage, if not total loss.
Many houses would simply dissapear... as they have in the worst cat5 storms.
This storm will most likely depending on speed still be a strong cat3 at the least upong entering the florida straits... the waters there are VERY warm which most likely would spawn extreme cyclogenisis as andrew did in 1992 and Charley did in 2004. The shear size of this Major Cat5 storm allows it to remain healthy even in the midst of passing over small land masses, especially if it were to be traveling at >15kt.
We all need to remain vigilant with this storm...
From Texas to the carolina's. Category 5 storms are very rare... and they have a being to them that allows them to do what defies today's simple logic.
Stay safe, and please get some sleep...
Tomorrow i am securing my weather station deaper into the ground.
If this passes over south fla, you all will get a first hand view of my area.

Totally agree with all you have said Eric... I will be watching this closely as well even though I live in VA.. because my grandparents are currently in Jacksonville, FL.

In the last few frames Ivan seems to be losing a little of it's perfect form.

Monatana i belive... lol, i don't know with it shooting up the state... not much is safe, and if the storm heads east or west of the state it could impact where you attempt to shelter.
Not a good situation, ontop of the already horendous one in fla.
Where are the supplies and gas we are going to need??

Only flood areas and mobiles are evacuated. So inland within your county is the usual recommendation for safety reasons. If you can't go without power or it's about comfort, take a vacation
I'll go to Orlando if it looks like a direct hit.

Passed 6 gas stations yesterday here in Brevard with no gasoline... and the Publix was stripped bare, in part because of power loss requiring ALL meat and dairy to be tossed. I have never seen a store so bare...
As soon as my wife wakes up, we will go out and find fuel....
... fortunately, the children are only rejoicing that school remains out of session.
A Cat 5 coming????? What can we say here in Melbourne that hasn't already been said?

People.. people.. please remember that before Ivan heads in our general direction it still has to pass over the portion of Cuba that is very mountainous, I just don’t see Ivan keeping his Cat 5 strength when (and if…) it makes landfall in South Florida. However, it still would probably be a high Cat 3 or possible Cat 4 and a track up the middle of the state would bring the east side of the storm through Dade, Broward and Palm Beach, this could still be a very dangerous situation, much worse than Francis I’m afraid.
