Ivan is about as symmetrical as a storm can be....

#1342 Postby Anonymous » Wed Sep 08, 2004 8:38 pm

...looking at the latest 1:15 IR satelite loops.

He is WHACK horrific looking!

Some people are really going to take a whooping, upon landfall.

I wonder what is happening down there...
I would have thought they would have sufficient forces to counter looting, etc.

Newbie here, so honest question. Anyone notice how close the UKMET track is to Charley? I know all the other variables are different four weeks later, but have two storms taken the same track before?

Change to data

#1356 Postby South Tampa » Wed Sep 08, 2004 8:42 pm

Remove Georges 1998 from the data. He was a CAT 4 in the Eastern Carribean. Once he entered the GOM he never got above CAT 2 so
doesn't meet my criteria.

Glad to hear that.... If TWC said it, we should expect pressure to rise to 1000MB tomorrow.... (unless it was Stephanie Abrams - I'll believe anything she says)...

I think there's a little shear just West of Ivan, but
that has not really stopped him to date.

We may have a cat 5 right now!

Ivan #8..Near Sarasota in 120hrs/115kts

#1359 Postby ncweatherwizard » Wed Sep 08, 2004 8:43 pm

http://www.nencweather.com/tropicalweat ... /ivan.html

Intensity remains shaky because I need to figure out how much time it will have over land first. I wasn't ready to make a landfall prediction tonight--I was thinking more of tomorrow, but I guess this track somewhat forces me to make one, bringing the center a few miles west of Sarasota in 120 hours. But note that the 120 hour point is somewhat arbitrary and a compromise, so I'm not actually expecting the storm to hit this point yet.
