How many of you live in S.Florida?

I have a feeling we have alot of people from South Florida on this board. The reason why I say that is during Frances peak landfall. it seemed like there was lull in postings. It makes me wonder if you guys lost your power during the storm. Anyway I think you S. Florida posters need get a grip and realize that there is NOT ONE DARN thing you can do about whether or not Ivan makes landfall on your state. You need to take a deep breath and relax. Also make sure you got everything in case you have to evacuate (again). If you are religious than pray alot. I hope you guys don't get upset after I say this but if any of you are -removed- (don't tell there none on this board because I know that is not true) this storm toward you then I really am at a lost for words because you obviously have no clue what cat. 4-5 hurricane is like. I know I don't and believe me I don't want to find out. I just know what I saw after Camille and Andrew.

^^ I'm Plenty ready for all she wants to bring... almost all the shutters up, all the supplies, and the weather station, and webcam are setup and good to go... with almost 50 hours of battery backup!

Bring it Ivan... don't you dare pull a Frances and sit and make us wait... i rather you bring it, and show me what you got, then get the He** out of here! lol

By the way i am not an idiot. I live in a Very fortified house well inland above water level. My great grandfather wrote the FIRST hurricane building code in the world... so our house is pretty strong, exceding dade county code by leaps and bounds in every way. I am tired/angry from what Frances did, and i want this storm to go away... if that means it passes through me first, then fine... Do it... then leave us alone!

One thing.... Imagine if this is a new trend with the stronger Bermuda high, as many had believed would occur. We may be entering another period like that of the 30-50's with fla recieving many more landfalls.... Where insurance will go...

Not nice....we're, for the most part, calm....just weary of this waiting and watching feeling like we have a "Hit me" sign on us this year. If Ivan's coming, fine, so be it, I'm prepared....I just wish he'd get on with it.

yes many of us did lose power starting sat afternoon and i was one. there are alot more people in florida that know what a 4-5 is than anybody else in this country except for charleston residents. Andrew and Charley both Florida storms and 4-5 at landfall so dont assume that people in flroida dont have a clue. Furthermore, people in miai-dade and broward are well aware what trop force winds can do, we expiereced them less than a week ago. as far as people I disagree with go, thats there problem no matter where they live. if anyone wants to be in a storm than buy a plane ticket and head to landfall.

Boynton Beach Fl Here... Lost power sat got it back late last night. Right now I have no idea what Ivan will do. All I know is that is gonna be rough to re-supply what I need. Before Frances I had 2 weeks worth of supplies... Now I got about a weeks worth. Stores are pretty barren still. Florida is tough... Looks like we are in for the seasons they had in the 30's and 40's

Yeah, I went 2 days without power. I think the incidence of people I disagree with in FLorida is at an all time low. I think we'll have to look elsewhere to find any.

STILL no power. we have been without power since sat. 9am. we are lucky my dad just moved here and he had a generator and a 30ft rv with propane.

I think I would be ok with up to a mid cat 3 storm. The aftermath of Frances was inconvenient enough in S. Fla and much worse further north. Anything closer or stronger than we had would be really bad as I've seen it before. A mid 4+ heading right for me would scare the &*^%$# out of me and I'm not sure if I'd want to abandon ship or not.

Well we're still cleaning up. We got power back Monday about 8:30 PM after loosing it on Saturday morning. We went to generator at that time. Thank God we prepared. My wife has temporary medical need for O2 and has an O2 machine. I had to have power!! I had enough gasoline for about 36 hrs. When the power came back on , I breathed a sigh of relief. I filled up all our vehicles the previous weekend and am glad I did. I will try to get out and repeat tonight or in the AM. The worst damage we have is our pool screen enclosure and lots of trees down. The neighbors helped each other with chain saws and labor to move storm trash. I used a come-a-long , rope & my truck to stand two palms back up & braced them w/ 2 x 4s. I have a pile of trash in front of my house 10 ft high & 50 ft long. We got to the grocery store yesterday and it was a mob!! People were decent though. I experienced my first real burn out today & had to take a nap break.

Now with Ivan on the way we just have to gather ourselves up, hold our heads up & look like champions. I just hope it doesn't linger like Frances did.

Yes, of course we are -removed-. We want every hurricane to come our way. We enjoy losing our power and trees and homes. We love seeing our children cry in fear. You are treading on thin ice with comments like that. Sanibel Island here.


We are 7 miles out in the Gulf on Florida's SW coast. We just had Charley blow through and the island is extensively damaged. Though I wasn't here because I evacuated, I do have a very close at hand idea of what a category 4 storm can do. We got off easy with Charley because he was tight-cored and moving fast. I can see if we took an Ivan on a similar track we would get a much harder punch and real surge this time. Yesterday I spent several hours doing roof patching to stop damage done by Charley 25 days ago.

Years of watching hurricanes on the net has suddenly become very real to me this year in bunches...

we just had a real vacation in yrs. there in june. then we come home in august and whammo. also my daughter was in orlando during charley. i really am thinking we are cursed. btw sanibel was extremely beautiful. we stayed at castaways. plz stay safe everyone in fl.

I'm still without power and I've heard it could be another 5-7 days.

My house is boarded up so there is no air circulating. Needless to say, it's been like living in a pizza oven.

I finally got a tank of gas yesterday (after a nervous hour wait with the "check guage" light on).

There is no ice anywhere. You have to get in another hour long line of cars to have the gubbmint hand it to you.

There is no refrigerated food at the Publix, only picked over cans of soup and loaves of bread.

Yeah, we're having a ball down here "wishing" all this upon ourselves. Heck, this has been so much fun I'm thinking of calling FPL when it's all over and just CANCELLING my electric account!
