:notworthy: "Dittos" Mods! I've been lurking for quite some time and tend not to post for fear of getting flamed for my stupidity, so thank you so much for declaring war on the trolls. This board is the best moderated one I've ever surfed and I've learned so much from reading y'alls posts. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication.

Alerting Mods/Admin of offensive behavior is what I recommend. Don't contribute to the flaming/bashing, just report the topic. I simply PM one of them, with a Heads Ups message and a link. In other words, I tattle. Call me a tattletail, I don't care. What I want to protect is our family-freindly atmosphere here! That's my #1 Storm2K priority. It's really what sets Storm2K heads above the rest - it's moderated and if you behave, you're one of the family. What more could you ask for?

Funny thing Dude I was logging on the board this morning thinking I wonder how many BAD posts there would be. As a long time board member I agree with you. All the mod are doing the best that can be done. Thanks for everything

I do not wish to be a nuisance, so please tell me if I cross the line before booting me off.

I will often make "predictions" based on a medium level of experience and an affinity to chart a different coarse than the consensus. I always recommend that anyone within 500 miles (or more in cases of large storms like Frances and Ivan) of any storm in any direction get frequent updates so they can take lifesaving action. Property damage is sad, but is way down on my list of concerns. Complaints about the inconvenience of evacuating only irritate me.

Currently, I am calling for a more Westerly and Southerly landfall for Ivan than any other "forecaster" based on a belief that the models have too much of a northern bias due to a belief thet Beta increases all the way to the equater and my contention that it peakes about 20 degrees lattitude.

This bias, when amplified to days 4 and 5, cause many interactions in the models with systems which do not actually occur.

Thanks for the forum.

I admit it. I am a "lurker" (hanging my head in shame)
I had searched for sites just as this, due to my obsession with the weather and my NEED to know what it all means. With the current(2004) tropical situations, I felt the need to actually join. I think most all of you people on this board are absolutly wonderful. I have learned so much, even though I still have "blonde moments", and still am trying to figure out what some of this means. (so I can argue with my husband on it) If I might ask a dumb question, I realize it is pretty stupid, but most of you all give me a break, laugh at me and still answer. I think the moderators are doing a wonderful job considering the amount of members posting. (It takes me all night and sometimes day to just keep up with it all) The total support and concern shown to members, by members, that have been hit with these monsters is amazing. I have noticed that when someone "flames" usually another member will bust them out on it.
Now just a question, since I am a "lurker" does that make me a troll?? I know what a troll is but have seen it said that anyone who is new to posting is just someone who is really just trolling and has no business posting and that they should just be ignored. Personally I have never thought of myself as a troll....... :22:

Nah, lurker status does not equal troll status. Whoever said that anyone new to posting is just a troll, is the troll themselves.

You know what they say--the dumbest question is the one never asked.

Lurkers are not trolls! How can they be - trolls cause trouble. Lurkers do not cause trouble! However, I encourage anyone else lurking, please post and get to know us. We won't bite, well 99.9% of us won't..... Welcome to all our newcomers! And MBismyP. - I won't laugh at your questions - heck, I'm such a novice at this wx stuff myself, I often ~think~ the stupid questions, then wait until someone else asks them....what does make me? A wimp I guess... LOL If you do have a question you think might bring criticism, just say please don't flame me but I have to ask this question....I've done that a few times and I've rarely been flamed. The person that never asks questions is often the ignornant one I think.

I agree, I just saw a thread in another spot that is trying to spark a flame...and I'm sooo happy to know that this isn't tolerated and this board is a place I come to for good informed opinions and theories regarding the storms.

One thing I've been noticing is that a lot of the folks in Florida and in the Carribbean are a little more sensitive than usual right now, rightfully so, and I'm really hoping that folks out of state and in other areas really try to be a little more tactful. I'm seeing a lot of "get over it" and "quit whining" types of posts from those sitting high and dry without a loaded gun aimed at them for the third time in a month. Speaking as someone who has not suffered a lot of damage, but has experienced the incredible stress of evacuating, returning, preparing, preparing to evacuate yet again, we are really stretched to our last nerve. Try to understand.

Unfortunately I think some people actually enjoy kicking people when they're down, or at least wagging their fingers at them, and unfortunately I've seen way too many posts like this here lately, especially from people outside Florida.

Can't we all just get along? Next time it could be you that this happens to.

In a two dementional world (computers), with the ability to be annonomous, it is easy to flame. Unfortunately that is part of the world we live in with the web. Things we would post to others we would never say if we met that person.

Although I am new to the list, I try to live what my mama taught me "Treat others the way you want to be treated."

While the moderators do a great job, we are all adults and should be able to have civilized conversations without putting others down (without someone having to go after us to edit posts). There will always be inappropriate posts, and hopefully the moderators will take care of those. For those of us who care about this list, just remember that those on the other side of the screen are also people (who have feelings and can be hurt or helped by your comments). If we all remember that the flamers will go away.

Back to Ivan!
