I am hoping that I am not one of the "flame" people. If I become one, please feel free to let me know as I am fascinated by the amount of knowledge on this board. To be honest. I came to this board because in the uncertainty of Frances, it was non alarmist, for the most part, and helped me to understand that things are not set in stone with this type of weather event. Also, the updates that people gave were of great comfort to friends of ours who had to evacuate and had no clue what they were going to come back to. Thanks for keeping me and my friends in Orlando calm when the seas are not. (not being sarcastic)

i'm coming clean... i joined in goofing on hurricane_lover the last go round and wishcasted in an authorized "ivan - guess it" thread, but otherwise i'm a good egg and appreciate the high road taken by the majority here. i'd imagine the busy storm season has increased traffic here and introduced some hostile types. count me in on the down with flaming bandwagon.

You know, I've never run into this. I am a complete weather newbie, but my questions, no matter how stupid they sound to a seasoned professional, have always been answered with simple professionalism.

I posted this thread earlier tonight, and got my question answered perfectly.

Sometimes, the difference between -removed- and newbieness is in how you phrase yourself. Instead of saying a dumbass thing like, "Whoa, the models are totally wrong here." when you have no idea what you're saying, it might be better to rephrase your statement in the form of a question. IE: "Gee, according to the models, storm XYZ is supposed to do this. But somehow that doesn't seem right to me. Can you guys explain why the models are saying this?"

Oh. And don't put a wx in your screen name if you aren't one. It just totally opens you up to being torched.

Oh, and one other thing. God gave to 2 eyes(ears) and one mouth. They are to be used in direct proportion with each other. You should be reading (listening) twice as much as you are talking. This way you absorb a whole lot more without looking like a dumbass.

I find the professional mets on this board do a great job of explaining the nuances and intricacies of weather forecasting, if you only ask them! There should never be a fear of asking a question on this board about anything, no matter how mundane. Because the professionals who post here are exactly that; PROFESSIONAL.

BTW, could somebody please explain to me what wind shear is in how it relates to a hurricane? I'm guessing that it's a strong wind going in the opposite direction of a Hurricanes' rotation. Or is it a sudden downforce of wind which cuts into a 'cane like a knife?

Zero question. I was on the air and didn't see your post...I will continue to do everything I can to make this a positive place...including addressing troublemakers with the mod staff.

Good post, Mike.

I agree, the bashing needs to stop. I don't post a lot, actually was a member for a year before I ever posted anything. I have noticed that some folks type things and don't realize what it sounds like to someone that doesn't know them. i.e. Redneck Rivieria....the guy that said it is from here...MS Gulf Coast and the guy that took offense is from Biloxi...heck we are only 30 miles from each other....I think it was just taken the wrong way and blew up from there.

I did notice a thread that was posted supposedly by Dr. John Hope.....it was in bad taste and I PM'd Lindaloo and before she could take care of it, one of the other moderators had.

I am an avid (do I mean addicted) fan of this form and enjoy learning from so many knowledgable people.

Thanks for all the help guys and the answers when I ask a question.

By the way, there are no stupid questions, you can't learn if you don't ask.

Also hurricanedude...thanks for serving in the military and defending our country! God Bless You!

Hi. I have never posted on here, but would like to say how informative i find this board. This is always the first place I go when I want info on the tropics. I don't know alot about the science of hurricanes, but living on the Gulf in South Texas I know a lil about them!! Keep up the good work to all you who know so much more then I!!

On board - Also new here, but find this board to be a wonderful asset. After my meteorologist buddy moved away, I had no one to turn to - but now I do. I've never much cared for waiting on local mets to tell me - I'd much rather find out myself from people such as yourselves.

Keep it up fellas/gals
