So far in this busy season, we've had:
Alex
Bonnie
Charley
Danielle
Earl
Frances
Gaston
Hermine
Ivan
Of those, which storm names, if any, do you think will be retired this year???
My opinion: Charley & Frances, definitely.....Ivan, probably....

Looks like unanimously the storms that will be retired as of Tuesday, September 7th are Charley, Frances (even if the storm was a 50 mph Tropical Storm that moved out to sea at 55°W) and potential Ivan.
Names can be used again after at least 10 years have elapsed.

If we retire too many names, we'll run out and be stuck with really dorky names.

Whenever a hurricane has had a major impact, any country affected by the storm can request that the name of the hurricane be “retired” by agreement of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). Retiring a name actually means that it cannot be reused for at least 10 years, to facilitate historic references, legal actions, insurance claim activities, etc. and avoid public confusion with another storm of the same name. If that happens, a like gender name is selected in English, Spanish or French for Atlantic Storms.
