Maybe the "eye" was an illusion... but the CDO is expanding S and W, and cooling.

On the IR black and white it shows up no doubt as of right now.

At 0145Z, I don't think the warm spot is the eye, based on the position and curvature of neighboring convection.

Was thinking the same thing. Ivan caught a cold yesterday and is still coughing.

That's what I thought-- but check the 1:45 (30 minutes later) picture, and you may come to the conclusion I did.

Colin: While I think the eye may not be there anymore, I actually think it continues to strengthen over the past few frames, based on the convection getting over the center and becoming more circular, and cooling.

It is the eye, but its partially obscured. If you notice, the actual center of the storm is just under the largest red area and to the left of the smalled red area. It is plausible for that warm spot to be part of the eye.

Hmmm.. 0215Z, watched under motion... could have been, perhaps... super-cold spot appears there now.

Don't be surprised if it's suddenly downgraded to a strong tropical wave. This is not necessarily out of the realm of possibility, as it has happened to a couple of tropical storms east of these islands that were moving too quickly to maintain themselves.

Well, that certainly isn't happening now... not saying it couldn't in the future. But it appears to be on a strengthening track. Good news for you is it will pass S of you.

Abajan I wish that could be the case but all the images I see here look as if you guys will see at least part of a major storm.
