Ivan 576 miles a day......

man is he cruising in fast at 24 mph. We go from one extreme to the other, frances crept along, I just hope that if Ivan does come close to landfall somewhere, it maintains that speed, and doesn't creep across, driving everyone insane.

Anyone have any data on how fast a hurricane can move before blowing itself out like a candle out a car window?
I'd like to see that in this case.

The Long Island Express (1938 I believe) was traveling 38 MPH when it snuck up the east coast with hurricane force winds so 20 - 30 may be unusual, but not killer.

576 miles! That's about the distance from Mobile to Tampa. Just think of the unlucky souls on the onshore side of this thing.
