When Frances Enters The Gulf of Mexico...

#1 Postby Sean in New Orleans » Wed Sep 01, 2004 10:23 pm

...the storm will stay East of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. Carl Arredondo, Chief Meteorologist on Channel 4 in New Orleans, stated that the system WILL NOT come near New Orleans or anywhere near here due to the strong SW flow over the Gulf of Mexico. This is quite evident with this satellite view, as well.... http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/TROP/DATA/RT ... -loop.html
How far West Frances goes once it gets in the Gulf will be interesting to watch, but, it won't be very far, at all. Florida will be the state to keep this system, IMO.

Sure hope Arredondo is right, and I see what you're pointing out. I will erect a shrine to him posthaste.

Heh -- with the luck Florida has been having lately, it'd probably back up over west side of Florida again.

AFAIK it's not even forecast to head into the Gulf, so why the "when"? Shouldn't you be saying "if" or "on the very rare chance that"?

Famous last words  also, the current sattelite pics have absolutly nothing to do with what will be present in 96-120 hours.

Not going to bet the house...I'm watching, but, I'm quite confident that Frances doesn't have anywhere West of Panama City on it's path plans...could be wrong, but, I don't see it and I've been staring at every cloud now for days from Corpus Christi to San Juan.

I wonder if they (NO forecaters) will be as bullish tomorrow after they read the 11pm discussion and get to look at the new model data that has incorporated the Gulfstream data. Go ahead to Destin but it might get a little windy there......MGC

I understand that but by the time Frances enters the GOM things can and probably will change. As a matter a fact one the models has Frances
making a second landfall over Mobile! Now that is WAY TOO close for comfort for anyone living along the FL.MS or SE La. gulf coast.

And I heard the same thing on WWL. I believe many of these local mets, with a few exceptions, have to play the game with their station's ownership, and will seldom state anything not approved beforehand. I'd imagine they are under strict guidance to avoid saying anything which may impact the station's credibility down the road. SO - they just say the "safe" thing until it's a hit is staring them in the face... Radio/TV Politics.
