Traffic

In most normal traffic situations, you will almost get run over if you drive under 75 (fact on I-10 anyway).


But come evacuation time, it's bumper to bumper, at 3 MPH. WHY!!!

WHY!!!


It's the slinky effect, dahling. That which has stretched (cars moving expeditiously with large gaps between them) must come to a dead stop before eventually stretching out again. Net effect: 3 mph.

That, and goobers who coast at 3 mph in the left lane.

At least Louisiana made it illegal to drive in the left lane, only passing allowed!

Yeah but have you driven there since it was passed? Still many, many goobers creating rolling roadblocks in the left lane.

Does Florida have contraflow plans, or is the nature of the evacuation routes such that contraflow is impossible?

I know they tested contraflow between Tampa and Orlando this summer. I don't know what the plans are for the east coast though.

I'd think they'll do the opposite..Daytona to Tampa.

LOL, same way here about having to go over the speed limit to not be run over. I was going 70 down I-85 a couple of weeks ago and you would have thought I was going 30. Geez...

I can't see them doing that with I-4 East. It leads to I-95, which leads to I-10 (which will get you to I-75). Those are the two main routes out of the state.
