I don't have much cash.. But I'd like to go out and purchase a battery operated radio..
I found one in Wal Mart today for about 10 dollars..
I'm assuming I should go ahead and buy it but I thought I'd ask opinions from you guys..
Not being able to hear {from the media} what was going on during Charley drove me nuts
Opinions as always welcomed..
1 more hurricane question..

Yes, get it. And after this storm save up about $150 for a dual trunk scanner with weather band from Radio Shack. You'll be able to get your information directly from the source that way, as well as monitor the police/fire radio frequencies for entertainment vaule/important information as the storm is coming through and after it has passed.

A weather radio is great, but if they get knocked out, you won't have anything because you won't be able to hear the local radio stations. (Well, unless you get a radio that is AM/FM/Weather... and some have TV, too.) During Hurricanes Frederic and Opal, battery radios were our only source for info. Do get that radio!

a small pocket weather radio (the radio shack one or oregon scientific, etc.) AND a small AM/FM portable is a nice combination because you can put one in each pocket. If one goes out, the other still works. Need batteries for both. The combo radio is fine if it works, but if something happens to it, you don't have anything. So if you can't afford really good combo radio, buy two cheapies (I got my radio shack NOAA on a closeout for $20 (last year's but it works fine) and a small pocket $20 radio that also works very well.
