This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

A question that may get me smacked, FSU/UM game on Monday...

#1 Postby JMGNole » Wed Sep 01, 2004 11:35 am

Disclaimer: Before you hammer me, I understand how unimportant a football game is at a time like this. With the current scenarios, I don't care if it ever gets played, and I haven't missed an FSU home game since the Carter Administration. The safety of fellow Floridians, including family and friends all over the state, is a lot more important to me that this game.

Now to the question: :?:

Following the prevailing opinions from the experts on this board, if the storm comes ashore anywhere south of Daytona and crosses into the GOM....

.....does it still get played on Monday night?

I'd have to think not, what with the anticipated devastation of south and central Florida, following the WPB/Tampa/GOM/Panhandle scenario. Whether Miami escapes or not, I can't see sending 80K folks into Dade for a ballgame.

Opinions?

Yeah, I'm not so happy with Frances because I bet the Marlins/Cubs game Sat. (I had tickets - grr) won't be played, and the FSU/UM game will probably be rescheduled - grrrrr.....the last time that game was rescheduled due to a 'cane, the *#&^^$^ 'Noles beat us....

Frances - go away! She's OBVIOUSLY an FSU fan! LOL

I think it will be cancelled. They cancelled the Bucs preseason game for Charley and that was to be played 48 hours after landfall.

Much as I hate it ... if it were my call I'd postpone.

Defintely postponed. The problem is... the FSU team has to go to Miami and even if Tallahassee and Miami escape the core of the hurricane, they will have to travel through the ravaged areas(presumably north of Miami).

JMG!

any chance i can hot foot up to tally and watch it at your place if played since my power is likely to still be out?!?

in all sincerity though i'm definately very worried for many friends and family that now seem to be in the direct path of the storm from boca, accross bradenton through st. pete.

if it makes landfall at boca raton (as derek ortt is predicting) the OB is only 44 miles south (ironically the same distance as my house will be from the center of the storm by his current plot) and the worst of the storm is packing to the south side so i highly doubt coral gables will have the electrical power or the man power necessary to police / facilitate the game.

I think it'd be best to postpone it. It's going to be a mess somewhere in Flordia after Friday. Traveling doesn't look good. My neighbor wanted me to go to Florida with him this weekend. I haven't talked to him all week and he keeps an eye on the weather. I'm not going anywhere near Flordia this weekend.

I'll be the voice of dissent. On the current path I think they will play the game since it is Monday night.

I hope. I have tickets ;-)

Brent, that's what I'm thinking. Even if the south part of the state escapes sever damage, all those law enforcement folks who work a big game will be busy doing more important stuff. Also, folks from the damaged areas will be flooding the hotels and highways of Dade.

I'd call it in a minute. At the least, push it back a week to, no kidding, 9/11.

All you Canes be safe down there.

savethebeer, get me while you can. I have no power on this board.... :D

THREE Warchant goobers on one board?

Let's not start a trend.

This board is too important to have our resident bozos flooding it.

SMACK!!!

Get back to Warchant buddy :-)
I don't see this game being played on Monday. I have read a lot of people saying that everything will be clear in Miami by the time MOnday night rolls around. While this is true, there will be after effects felt throughout the state that will last more than 2 days.

JMG - what the heck are you doing over here in my neighborhood?? :D :D

Welcome to my nerdy retreat.

I'll be sure to address to the game during my weathercasts the next few days. At this moment, I'm not too optimistic about it being played. (Or should I say, I'm not so sure that it should be played.

Now git back over to Warchant where you belong! :P

ABC Sports is more powerful than Frances. My guess is they wait it out and react after landfall. ABC is probably already setting up in the stadium. The team will be staying at the Miami airport. Tickets have already been sold. If game day is nice and the stadium is still standing I bet they play.

Ohhhhh, now I see why this board keeps crashing. All you Warchant folks are coming over here now. What? My posts on the Tribal Council aren't good enough for ya?

Seriously though, I may talk to Gene about putting something up on the front page of Warchant, with some links.

Hope Frances goes wide right and everybody in Florida wins. :D

Great, FIVE Warchant goobers. :P

Mike, wait until these folks get their new RAM shipment. This site is too important of have our band of "gentlemen" over run it and take it down.

Hey, I trust you completely, and I LOVE this site. I know diddly about the weather but these folks certainly do. I've been living off of Derek Ortt's reports for three days.

You're right, we SHOULDN'T play this game when/if south Florida gets hammered. If anything, we should offer assistance, not be a hindrance.
