An Oval shape doesn't necessarily mean a turn is imminent.

However, one could argue FOR the idea by pointing out that the satellite shot was taken roughly 8-12 hours prior to Andrew beginning a recurve to the NW over the Gulf.

Andrew followed on the outside of a high pressure system, so at the point where it's at in the picture, the turn was still quite aways off, almost due south of LA.

Actually, it was a very gentle, almost parabolic turn, but arguably, a change in the overall direction, and one that began in earnest on the SW Florida coastline, ending the rapid due WWD roll that slammed Andrew into south Dade.
