Frances still accelerating?

#1 Postby x-y-no » Tue Aug 31, 2004 2:57 pm

In the 11AM forecast (15:00 Z), the NHC said:

FORECAST VALID 01/0000Z 20.4N 66.1W
MAX WIND 120 KT...GUSTS 145 KT.

It looks to me like Frances will make almost exactly that position, but at about 21:00 Z.

So that means that while they hit the position dead on, they were 50% too slow (9 hours forcast vs. 6 hours actual). Seems to me that implies more acceleration than going from 14mph to 16mph.

If it accelerates.. then the influence of the ridge should continue hence bringing it to Central or South Florida.. I still think the new track is too far north
