Kind of hard for him to say anything else. This is still a ways off. We'll know by Thursday morning where this is going, I believe.

Unfortunately Thursday is just way too late. Hurricane watches would be posted on the FL coast by then. We need to know where this thing is going by Wednesday.

I said the same thing on another board. By late Wednesday we will have a better idea where its headed. They certainly will have to make a decision to get people out of the Keys vs Carolinas which would be days away.

Better right and hesitant than bold and reckless.

Uh... landfall is 5 days away. The track errors are large that far out, so he does have a point. I certainly wouldn't rule out a hit farther north from Florida even though I think it's unlikely.

Actually I think he would have been wiser to say that the threat to Florida could be sooner than say the Carolinas so people down there should prepare themselves for a possible landfall. We will know Florida is in the clear if Frances makes a major turn northward and thus the Carolinas would have a little more time at this point.

Personally, I am a fan of Dr. Lyons. He does not hype the situation and is always "matter-of-fact". I am sure he is limited as to just what he is allowed to say. As a "matter-of-fact", he is much more knowledgeable about the situation than any of us posting on this board. Just my humble opinion.....

Actually, I think that was a rather responsible comment. Frances is still WAY OUT TO SEA and anything can happen between now and Saturday. Those areas need to be thinking about the possibility of a landfall. We've already seen what complacency can do in Florida with Hurricane Charley.

Reminds me of the Hunter S. Thompson line... Everyone on the east coast between Palm Beach and Boston is staring down the barrel of a loaded gun.
