Bob Breck forecast (New Orleans)

#1 Postby FritzPaul » Mon Aug 30, 2004 4:34 pm

If Frances continues on her westerly track, Bob Breck should be breaking out his doomsday forecast. LOL!

If any of you are old enough to remember what happened to Bob Breck after Hurricane Juan (I believe), then you might understood why he's doing that.

I think he just wants everyone to keep there eyes open. When Andrew hit he said Houma would see winds like they never saw before and he was CORRECT.

P.S. You know we're in trouble if Nash breaks out his magic markers.

Hey, lay off my man Bob! Since Nash retired, Bob's my go-to guy. Plus, he's so darned excited about his job. I like that in a weatherdude.

I'm definitely old enough, but I think I was living out of town during Juan. What happened? Did Bob get burned by an errant forecast or something?

I haven't seen Nash since Georges. Didn't he permanently retire? I don't think he died or did he?

Have any of you guys ever heard the story of Nash being a "veil" baby? It was suppose to have been a story printed after his Georges forcast.

I think Nash is retired for good, tho if a cat 5 heads to NOLA, they might put him in front the cameras just to urge people to evacuate. His last big forecast was the "Georges will turn and go to Biloxi" one, wasn't it?

Gah! Bob's such a tease. He'll be back later in the newscast to tell us why the Gulf Coast should not let their guard down.

^ Yeh I think it was his last big forecast.

Man we need him now, he'd know where it's going.

Bob's pretty good too. :)

Do you know how high the winds got to in Houma during Andrew? I really don't know. I haven't seen any reports or estimates really. However, I really doubt that Houma got winds unlike any they'd seen before. In Betsy, Houma received wind gusts of 130 mph and the pressure, if I remember correctly, dropped to 28.02 mb. I would guess that winds down there during Hilda were also stronger than Andrew, and probably stronger in the 1909 and 1926 hurricanes as well. A lot of people seem to soon forget storms or just don't know about the ones from the past. Here's an example. The 1909 hurricane sunk 100 coal barges in the Mississippi River in Baton Rouge, destroyed almost all the black churches there, flattened all the sugarcane, damaged nearly every single house, caused huge tree falls, almost destroyed the capitol building, caused a 10ft rise in the River, severely damaged factories (unroofed buildings, blew down smoke stacks, turned some buildings completely over), cut off the city from outside communications for days due to damaged electrical lines, etc. The newspaper story the day before Hilda came through in 1964 stated that Baton Rouge had never been through a bad storm. When Betsy hit the next year, no one made any more claims like that .

Yes, Nash's last forecast was Georges and he was right on as usual.

Bob Breck had told LA that Juan would not affect us and no one should worry. Well, he was wrong and the TV station that he worked for at the time fired him. Of course, he got his job back eventually but it was big deal at the time.

I just watched Bob for the 5pm news. He thinks it will not turn before FL, but rather skim extreme southern FL, then turn up towards the panhandle.
