Can I Vent for a Moment?
Okay, so we have a potential disaster on our doorstep. That's a given. Please allow me a few seconds to speak my mind about a few weather -related topics that are really on my wind right now.
</vent on>
1. Where's PAUK? Gosh, in the last few days, I expected him to pop up with a dire prediction for SNE. Now there IS a storm in New England and there's still no sign of him. A little of the Paukster would go a long way in lightening everyone's mood, I believe. PAUK, if you're out there, please check in. (Old timers to this and the past weather board will know who I mean.)
2. The name of these storms is really getting to me. Gaston. Hermine. Next up, Ivan. At last Frances is a name everyone can pronounce! I know it's politically correct to include names from all ethnic groups and so on, but, sheesh, when you're trying to explain the implications of a storm like Hermine or Gaston to someone who doesn't know weather, the explanation loses something. I for one long for the days when storms had names almost everyone could relate to. Not these sissified names!
3. Most of the people in my office seem to be divided into two groups. The first group is the "the sky is falling, we're about to be killed by the worst storm of the century" variety. The second group says" Oh, is there a storm out there? I don't know and don't have time to worry about it right now." Neither group has done a lick of preparation. Neither group wants to listen to reason or facts. GRRR. In fact, there was an arguument in the lunchroom between a member of Group A and Group B today. Unbelievable. And to make it worse, some of these people have really expensive homes, you'd think they'd want to take the time to protect their possessions in the event Frances does pay us a visit.

Thanks for listening.

Well then, I for one can't wait for Doritos Mastercard Hurricane Mutual of Omaha Frito Lay.
I like the exotic names, I don't want to hear about Hurricane Fred or Tropical Storm Wilbur. What's so difficult about pronouncing Ivan?

Is it "eye-ven" or "ee-von"?

This Hurricane Bush is sponsered by Fed EX, it's a sure bet it'll hit land a day before it's expected..... Wait out there in the Atlantic it's Hurricane Kerry, sponsered by UPS! This is going to be a huge race to land.
