Database issues

#1 Postby mf_dolphin » Mon Aug 30, 2004 11:40 am

I'm sure most of you are getting intermittent database errors. We making some adjustments to the server side database software that will hopefully help things out. The last change seems to have made it worse but we'll stay after it until we get it stabilized. Thanks for your patience and understanding!

Yeah ... tuning mysql is a little bit of a black art. :-)

Good luck, and we appreciate the effort.

I don't know if this would help, but I know a ton of people have been posting the exact same message more than once. Press submit ONCE, and don't touch it again, even if you get an error. I've had several messages appear even though it didn't seem as if they were going to be posted. It's sort of like buying things online when they tell you to only hit Buy or Submit once - I made that mistake a long time ago and ended up getting stuck with two of something.

We're doing everything we can to stabilize the situation. If the board gets slow please do not hit the Submit button more than one as Purdue said above. That only puts more load on the server. A little patience will help. I'll keep everyone posted on the progress. :-)

Yep. I'm experiencing the same issue with Mid-Atlantic WX-com.

While the model map is uploaded, we're having issues with our MySQL database as well. Until 6PM I've been unable to open the site and many custom pages rendered on the fly (through the database) are not operating at times. I will ask everyone for a little patience over at Mid-Atlantic WX.com as it's been a bumpy ride today and will get worse between now and Friday.

Thanks and good luch here, too

Anything we can do to help? Earlier there was a suggestion not to use the search function and I noticed the avatars are gone ( don't miss them at all). Would it help not to log in if we are just viewing/reading? How about posting links instead of pics. Anything?

This looks like it's a memory issue. With the number of users we've had the server is working it's butt off. That's our best technical guess right now so we've ordered an additional 1/2GB of RAM for the server but it may take a day or two to get it installed. Thanks to everyone who has donated tonight! :-)

Come on John, Chad and Marshall are doing all they can. They weren't expecting a doubling of regular users quite so fast.
