1949 No Name Hurricane

#1 Postby rainydaze » Mon Aug 30, 2004 8:29 am

My mom recently told me about a hurricane when she young that made a direct hit on WPB, FL. I did some research based on her age estimate and figured out it was "NO NAME 02 1949". It came through on August 26 with 130 mph winds....from what I can tell.

Below is the track of this hurricane. If Frances continues west faster or farther than expected, then Frances track seems close to this one. Also notice it crossed 60 under the 20 mark. What do ya'll think?

Thanks, Rainydaze/aka/Marie

Hi everyone,

I made this post on Monday. If you were to overlay Frances track and forecasted track it is becoming eerily similar to this one.

What are the similarities and/or differences you see in this storm compared to Frances?

It was weaker at its turning point, and that tells me, (and it is verifying) that the turn should be much more gradual in Frances than the north of Turk island track that this storm took.
