Thrill or Chill

#1 Postby Geoff Stormcloud » Sun Aug 29, 2004 6:14 pm

Growing up in New Orleans when i was in school I would often hope for landfall over us. I know its sick. I was only 6 months old for Betsy so I have had nothing to base my hurricane experience on. So me and my friends would hope for landfall. You know the story, adventure, no school, etc. etc... But now that I'm older with kids and a home of my own I just watch these things and hope they go somewhere else... mostly out to sea. So my opinion poll is, do we want this to come just to say we went through one or are we all mostly sane and wish they go somewhere else.

We are still wiping our bloody nose from the last one, this is nothing to wish for.

As with you, the older I get the more I wish they'd go somewhere else. ;-)

Yeah im 15 and am actually hoping that it gets close to us. I guess its thrilling for younger people. But when I get older I'll probably realize these things really arent fun at all.

I used to love to track them and wish them to come up, but now I've aged and matured (to the ripe old age of 16!) and would love if they were all fishies.

I'm getting to old to enjoy packing everything away in the yard and putting it back. I went through Donna as a child and was thrilled by the power of it and have been fascinated ever since. Now the reality of death and destruction does away with the thrill. I can't handle being without the AC, I went without for six hours and thought I would go nuts. Frances go away and don't come back another day.

If it's a Cat 4 or 5, I'd say hell no.

A Cat. 3 or less would be an adventure.

Made it through Lili in 02 and Andrew in 02, but both a Cat. 1 or 2 when it hit Lafayette. I wouldn't want to see a Cat. 4 or 5 here.

I thought I wanted something to come our way until:

1) Not-TS-Allison (riiiight) made the giant oak tree outside the house dance like John Travolta in a white leisure suit, and

2) I ran around taking pictures at the local yacht club during TS Bill landfall.

Those were quite enough for me. Fellow poster/friend/coworker dhweather swears that as long as he lives here, a hurricane won't come our way. I am not as confident in his anti-weauxfing skills as he is though.
