The issue is whether they want tens of thousands of football fans planning to pour into South Florida over the weekend. If the game is postponed, hotel rooms reserved by football fans will be freed up for the beach and mobile home dwellers who evacuate.
In 1998, the rule was to err on the side of caution and approaching Hurricane Georges led to a postponement of UM's game hosting UCLA. (The storm passed safely to the south.) The game was instead played as an additional game at the end of the season.
This storm obviously looks to be a more powerful threat than Georges was, so is this a no-brainer call? I think unless Frances takes a dramatic turn to the right in the next day or two, they'll be postponing the Seminoles vs. Hurricanes matchup 'til December.
