Record for Carolina hits in a season?

#1 Postby EDR1222 » Sun Aug 29, 2004 1:58 pm

Alex, Charley, Bonnie, Gaston all have passed through the Carolinas. It looks like the low right behind Gaston may be headed that way, and that all to familiar recurve is starting to show on the Models for Francis. If the one behind Gaston gets named and Francis heads that way, that would have to be some kind of record for number of storms affecting that area in one year. Amazing!

And what is scary is Sep 10 is the peak of hurricane season!!

EDR122-

I agree with what you are saying...models are now showing a recognizable bend in the forecast track beyond 72hrs and take Frances away from 78W longitude. Simply put, with a blocking high to the north (much like when Isabel came ashore last year in September) a track towards the Carolinas and even the Mid Atlantic looks more and more likely.

As I said in a previous thread somewhere-I can't remember where-a shift in the forecast track by 5 degrees would have a landfalling hurricane 50 to 150 miles NE of the original track. This is if Frances decides to miss FL, and for all the Floridians' sake, I hope it does.
