The local weather met feels that Gaston will cause a weakness in the river of air,but dosn't that contradict a strengthening high pressure?

What has me worried is the NHC is not even mentioning that... They are staying adament that this will remain on a west/wnw track... but they don't ever mention a final destination to prevent mas-histeria!

seeing a hook NW at end of track
I pointed out in another thread that it APPEARS that some of the tropical models are starting to indicate a slight NW hook toward the end of the forecast period. It's too early to hang your hat on, but look at even the official NHC 11 p.m. forecast track -- there is a slightly more NW component in the 5-day window. Excellent news for South FL ... but it'll be 36 hours before I'm willing to say "whew!" too loudly.

I saw that report and I really feel that the met was explaining all of the possible outcomes for Frances. He did mention Gaston and the weakness.........along with other possliblities. I really think the media is trying to keep everyone calm. So far they are doing a great job.
