The South wouldn't be, well, the South without the French, Spanish, Scots, Irish, and English. Not to mention the Native Americans.

Gat-Son or Gas-Ton or even Gad-son or Gad-sen, any which one will do........ but it is NOT Gas-TONE!

C'mon, Jamie.

When you've got one storm off your coast, and possibly another one in a week, you get your laughs any way you can...

Me too. And wasn't he an overinflated horse's azz in the movie, as well as off the coast of SC? Fitting, that.

>>It's pronounced gas-stone because it's French.

Actually in French it would be pronounced gasTAW or GasTOH with the "n" only coming into play in front of word beginning with a vowel or vowel sound (liason).

Hey, give me a break. I live in Lou-i-si-an-a (yeah, 5 sylables). Props out to the Mississippi dude who says Zhorghz as it's supposed to be pronounced. Our idiot mayor at the time (Marc Morial) thought he was getting street credit with his "Georg-es" crap he was spewing on the news. I broke curfew :). Heh.

Henceforth all Hurricanes shall be American names. If the French get a hurricane they can call it Pierre for all I care. We should stick with good american names like Chip, Spike, and Bubba

That's Mississippi dude-ette to you. I bet Morial couldn't even pronounce his own last name. I myself have a last name that is nearly impossible to pronounce and therefore take the time to get other names of dubious sound, correct...to address another post, it's not pretentious to attempt the correct (native) pronounciation of foreign names, it's polite.
