HIRT headed for Isle of Palms

#1 Postby hurricanetrack » Sat Aug 28, 2004 5:28 pm

Hey guys:

We are leaving for the Isle of Palms later this evening for a mission to observe and report on "Gaston".

You can see our live weather page here:

http://www.hurricanetrack.com/Wind

It is undergoing some work at the moment- but the wind and the web cam image should be working at least once per minute.

More when we get there...

may want to consider going slightly farther up the coast to ensure you get into the RFQ

IOP is fine.
The eye is SW of there, yet already visible on radar.
Heavy squall went through Mt. Pleasant at 6:15 pm.
Mark, I may swing by and say "Hi".

Mark,

I don't know if you'll be able to read this, but a better place to take measurements might be just over the bridge into Sullivan's Island.

As you come down Hwy 517 (The IOP Connector), turn right at the light.
Follow the main road and go over the bridge that connects IOP and Sullivan's Island.

Take your first LEFT.
There's a parking lot right there on the ocean with unobstructed views.

Also. High tide was around 7 pm tonight. I went to Station 22 on Sullivan's Island and there was NO BEACH! The waves were splashing right up to the dunes. I was able to see beach erosion ocurring.

All this and the main brunt of Gaston isn't even here yet.

And to think. Mark Seidel is in Pawley's Island.
(That baby....)

(Yes. I am only kidding...)

The sky over Mt. Pleasant just turned yellow.
That's NEVER a good sign!

It was awful looking even at 6pm when I got out of church here in Mt. Pleasant.
Do ya'll think this will be same, less, or stronger than Charley for us?

MUCH STRONGER!
Category 1 Hurricane expected at landfall + full moon high tide.

Finalize preparations tonight.

Daughter is at The Thicket Apartments in Mt Pleasant. She is on phone
wanting to know reason for the yellow sky.

I live there too.

Something about the interaction in the atmosphere gives it a yellow glow.
Ask any farmer, especially from Tornado Alley. When the sky turns yellow, keep an eye to the sky.

That's awesome!

I'm thinking of moving my car to the Town Center. Thickett has a lot of tall trees.

No wind yet, but that will change tomorrow.

Yikes! I didn't plan for this! I was ready for Charley cause we watched it for days and days. I didn't do the water and battery thing or even get milk! Darn, should have gone to the store....
So what time are we expecting our visitor Gaston? Will I have time in the a.m. to make preparations, or it too late?

Town Center is a great idea! I have a ton of trees in my neighborhood and one of my vehicles won't fit in the garage.
