The national hurricane center may have it moving to the NW, but for the past couple of hours this system has been moving to the WNW.

The one good thing the weather channel is doing is keeping a line that tracks the storm on the radar. If you take all the jogs into account and move a line from the last coordinates to the current you still get a nice NW motion.

What track are you looking at? The NHC track does not show a turn Northward at all. I think this baby is headed toward a Florida landfall but things can and probably will change so stay tuned.

Why would it turn north after Florida?

Most likely Florida, the other possibility is the Carolinas. But, if the NHC track verifies, South Florida(and then SW Florida where Charley hit) will get pounded.

I'd say the southeast coast from South Florida to N.C. should be watching it. We're a week out. This looks like it will go into Florida but historically they curve. Plus the fact that cat 5's don't always follow the rules, they have a habit of making their own rules. So everyone needs to watch it, be prepared, and hope that something might weaken the ridge enough that it turns north early and retires as a firsh.

I have read a lot of the threads on Frances...and most of you seem to have her making landfall in sthn Florida. Some of the models are showing a quick bend in the track to the NW (after the expected West turn tonight) and up the eastern seaboard...moving quite slowly due to a potential blocking high during the 7-10 day period. What are some of your thoughts on the potential for landfall farther north?...

Always possible, historically probable, but every storm is a different entity.

I disagree. I have it on good authority from Destruction5 and stormernie that this is not a threat to Florida. Matter of fact...Destruction.5 said "Trust Him..." so I am. Florida is safe.

I also have it on good authority from flyingphish that this is going to miss land altogether and be a fish storm. Even though the models show otherwise...he doesn't need them for his weather speculation. It won't impact anyone.

So..all you in Florida and all along the east coast....don't fear. Even though the NHC track is nearing ever closer...those bunch of yahoos have no idea what they are talking about. Some have assured us there is no threat. </sarcasm>

Models? Who needs them - when for $.95 a minute you can call the psychics hotline and find out exactly whether or not you and your loved ones are in harm's way (warning - it may take the psychic nearly an hour to get all of the rhythms and messages correct - but don't worry, as long as you have the meter running, they'll tell you what you want to hear!)
