Storm2k Forum Bandwidth Issue

#1 Postby chris_fit » Sat Aug 28, 2004 3:29 pm

I noticed that during storms like these this board is bumpin, and slows down to a crawl. I remember wanting to get updated info on Charely and couldnt connect half the time and I fear another situation like this will arrise with Frances.

Is there a way we can disable graphics to speed things up? Allocate some more bandwidth? This board is the best source of information we got and it will help tremendously in times of Emergency like Charley and soon Frances.

Anything we can do as members (in addition to donating funds) to speed things up?

Thanks and sorry if it's in the wrong forum

technically if all the skins are disabled and a low bandwidth version is forced on us....

that will def. make a big difference!

This a great board and a life saver for sure. But it's no use if we can't access it when we need it most.

Chris... they did disable graphics during the height of Charley. I imagine they will do that again if the situation warrants. I haven't noticed a slow-down yet.

I went to my profile page and selected the "subrebel" board format. It eliminates the sigs, avatars, and other graphics that slow down my already slow Webtv browser...

I've found it makes a world of difference, especially when the board is hopping as it was during Charley...and today.

I have DSL and during heavy traffic times, bandidth is average at best but its doable.

We need to get the mods to turn off email notifications as this can really slow up a server at a busy time - I know myself this from experance of running a 3000 user forum..
