Uh oh for N.O.?

#1 Postby Stormcenter » Sat Aug 28, 2004 4:08 pm

This is an excerpt from the the New Orleans, LA NWS afternoon discussion. So obviously somebody there thinks Frances will make it into the GOM and possibly affect the area. If I lived in New Orleans or anywhere along the central and eastern GOM I keep close tabs on Frances. I think Houston, TX area is safe, at least I hope.

THE TRACK OF
THE VERY STRONG HURRICANE FRANCES WILL BE THE MAIN CONCERN WHICH MAY
IMPACT THE FORECAST AFTER DAY 7...NEXT SATURDAY. REFER TO THE LATEST
ADVISORIES FROM THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER FOR THE LATEST
INFORMATION ON BOTH HURRICANE FRANCES AND TROPICAL STORM GASTON.

Houston here also. If its gets in the GOM anywhere from Upper TX to FL will needs to watch it...Local Mets here dont seem to cocerned with it...I hear ECoast or FL but some models take it into the GOM later next week. I cant imagine what it might do as far as intensity given our SST's out there now....scary thought...

I have been saying all along that I thought Francis would make it to the GULF.
Again, our forst priority is to deal with first landfall which looks like Southern Florida. After that, where it winds up on the Gulf coast will be determined on numerous factors, but quite possibly LA to Florida Panhandle. Time will tell.
