from Accuweather was forcasting this (Gaston development) well over a week ago. The NHC seems to miss a lot of storms that fall outside of their computer generated models, and seem to be unwilling to use alternative modes of forcasting. Similar thing happened with Charley: Privately owned meteorological groups screaming days in advance that Charley would track south and east of Tampa, yet NHC didn't change their forcaste until the morning before landfall.

I'd be interested in obtaining that list of groups.

OK, if you think you can do better than the NHC, then let's see your forecasts and compare them to the NHC's.

I felt the NHC was on top of the development of a TD/TS mid-week last. To the extent that I called my mom in OIB to give her a heads up.

While he did nail this one. He also devlops alot of phantom systems. Not bashing him cause I like him. NHC is not in the business of sending out alot of false alarms just so they can nail a few pre-development systems. If they did that, the amount of people who get tired of forecasters screaming wolf would grow exponetially and NHC would lose their credibility.

I apologize for the ranting, but second time in a row that NHC behind the eightball. Yes, I can do better than NHC; just need to read Joe Bastardi's column everyday, and then I have them beat.

Ok hoss did you forecast or see Gaston last week? Doubt it. Accuweather uses the same models NHC does and the NHC has several guys that are much better forecasters then what Accu's got. Lack of Training, I bet you really got off on saying that, have you been to college and recieved a degree in Meteorology? Name the privately owned companies other than Accu Weather that were screaming Charley into Ft. Myers. NHC had higher strike probs fro Ft. Myers and Port Charlotte then Tampa. It was the media that overhyped Tampa. Get your facts together then come back and we can chat.

WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For everyone he gets right he gets one wrong. Which is good for you and I but would not be good for the general public.

To express fair play, Joe's discussions point out potential trouble spots well in advance. Sometimes he hits and sometimes he doesn't. The NHC job is different in the sense that they deal with more concrete developments.

Actually, GreatOne always claimed to be from somewhere in the Midwest (I think St. Louis, Missouri), not Pennsylvania. Unless he moved to Pennsylvania, I don't think this guy is GreatOne.

I am glad you think Joe B is good at what he does. So do I. Joe is a friend of mine as well as others that frequent this site. Whether Joe B or Joe blow nails/predicts a sytem before the NHC or some private group does it still gives NO ONE the right to bash the NHC or any other person or agency, ESPECIALLY WHEN THAT PERSON IS NOT ADDING ANYTHING POSITIVE TO THE DISCUSSION. If you think you can do better than NHC then go for it and post your forecasts for all to see!!!
