MODIS Frances Image

#1 Postby PurdueWx80 » Fri Aug 27, 2004 6:13 pm

I'll try to post these every day. This image is from this morning at around 1640Z. The satellite (Terra I think) will pass over the storm at about the same time every day, but we'll only get one per day. It's pretty amazing that the eye is so well defined in this image.

There are higher resolution images, but they would take minutes to load, even on a cable modem.

That looks beautiful man. Thanks for taking the time to find that. Hopefully she will look beautiful and stay in the ocean that way.

Oh just wait - if it pulls a Cat 5, the eye should be even more spectacular. If that happens I'll download a 250 meter resolution image, crop the edges, and post it.

Gorgeous in that the satellite depicts a clear image of the storm. Not gorgeous in that it will hit any land. In that case she's a dog.

That would be sun glint. It's a reflection of the sun's energy off the surface off the ocean back towards the satellite's sensor. You can also see variations in the color of the ocean. In another 5-8 years GOES will have resolution as good or better than this satellite, and we'll be able to loop it at 5 and/or 1 minute intervals.

True - but that image is from almost 24 hours ago. Another should be in later today.
