Interesting but frightening possibilty

#1 Postby Josephine96 » Fri Aug 27, 2004 10:03 am

Here in Central Florida we are slowly continuing to cleanup from Charley. Even though he hit 2 weeks ago.. there is still debris everywhere...

This is the possibility.. if Frances comes this way.. not only would she put a bigger dent into our already battered landscape here..

But she could also use Charley's debris as missiles in her storm since most of the debris is still laying at the curbside..

Frances coming to Central Florida could be catastrophic especially if Charley's debris is still lying around..

Just a thought.. Not panicking.. I was actually thinking this when I saw an update last night

Dont quote me on this but I heard something about officials holding an emergency meeting down there this morning and also heard something about them possibly burning the debris if the storm approaches? Anyone else heard this?

I didn't hear the part about the emergency meeting.. But I thought I heard something on our local affiliate about a bonfire of some kind to burn Charley's debris..

If I hear more.. I'll pass it along..

Thought about any storm hitting there soon with everyone cleaning up...and though all the 'stuff' laying around and piling up...wasn't a pretty thought!

You should see my block Pebbles.. It looks like a pile of rubble was dumped on just about everybody's curb.. I'm starting to wonder why local trash pick up hasn't picked it up yet

True.. that's probably why it hasn't been picked up yet..

My guess is that they should burn it.. I know I heard that Orange County {the county to my north} is going to have a lot of debris burned.. But I don't know about us here

After Isabel here there were huge branches all over the place. Once everyone got them to the curb, some were still there after a month.

Florida Burning

#9 Postby KG4HPN » Fri Aug 27, 2004 12:07 pm

For those of us who live in unincorporated areas (like me, thank goodness) we can just choose to burn the debris ourselves if it looks like Frances is going to come this way. I don't know what folks who live in the municipalities would do, but it seems to me it would make sense to have a bonfire in each neighborhood and make the frelling stuff into ash...

Of course, there's always the problem of oleander and chinaberrry, both of which grow well here and both of which can be dangerous when burned (or so I've heard, something about poisonous smoke). That could be an issue, I suppose...

We shall see Jet.. maybe I'll ask the Kissimmee people about burning the debris.. I haven't heard any plans about what to do with Charley's debris if Frances comes this way
